I MEAN WHAT IS GOING ONNNNNN. B E Y I N Ć E!! GO BACK AND ABSORB THAT FIRST VERSE- She is taking inspirations from all over the place with her vocal choices and it’s something to behold. This is unlike anything I’ve heard from her- and she continues to break barriers. SHE IS ROCKIN! I’ve heard so many comparisons to the likes of Prince and Tina Turner and I totally see why. THE GROWLS! THE RUNS! THOSE LOW NOTESSS WHATTT! She is on another level! Radiating attitude, power, and confidence. A ROCK INSPIRED ALBUM NEXT PLEASEEEEEE!

I am LIVING for the 60s vibe to open! GROOVY lead in and then, musical commands from B. I always love when she does this because it gets the listener to focus on the background sounds more. Snaps, toms, claps and drums are introduced as we dive into a foot stomping “early rock” feeling. Incredible electric guitar elements and a Sitar?? Giving those groovy breaks those descending notes — BEACH BOYS VIBRATIONS INTERPALATION WHAT— I LOVE the rise in volume and intensity as we keep moving— it makes the contrast of the groove breaks that much starker. The music in this track has so much movement and energy and encapsulated all the different colors of an era of ever-changing sounds.

Such a clever transition! Letting her insane runs from “YA YA” cool down into this bayou vibe. Then creating this interlude is a vocally distorted sample of this Chuck Berry song from 1970. Love the nod to yet another different vibe in country musical roots.

DANCE PEOPLE DANCE! AN IRISH JIG INTO A BEAT WHAT! For those who know the lore, this album (or at least its beginnings and inspirations) before Renaissance. That means technically this may have been the first delve into that house-inspired sound that Act 1 has. I LOVE THIS ONE. A nice beat with clever instrumentation, a cool structure, and lovely vocals. YOU HEARD HER!! When B says Dance, I DANCE! What was that? BOUNCE on that- OKAY GIRL! I really enjoy that we have her in the refrains and early verses in her lower register and then add in the more ethereal harmonies and vocal stacks as the track progresses. The choices of her runs are so masterful and well placed. It’s super pleasant to the ear to have all of these moving vocals arrangements as the song continues- it adds so much fullness and complexity to a song that is using only verses and refrains.

RIIVERDANCE: MUSIC

I CANNOT RECOVER FROM THE USE OF DOLLY’S NAILS IN THIS. SO creative to open with an Irish jig- and I love that as a frame of the music. YES, THAT BEAT- DANCE-DANCE! I loveeee the use of breaks and rests- the instrumental isolation and changing-combinations of the elements. As always, the music is such a compliment to the lyric and this music has me moving and bouncing— Runnin through that riverr

Flawlessly transitioned— we’re keeping the pace and that house production THE TRAIN IS STILL MOVIN’. This track is TOP BEYONCÉ- the energy, the beats, the transitions, the vocal arrangement-JUST BRILLIANT. She’s feeling it and firing on all cylinders. This feels like classic Beyoncé yet elevated. At a 5:39 runtime… this could have gone 10! I WANT MORE!

Ohhh she’s in her pocket in this one. We can hear different facets of her tone and delivery through the music changes.  Serving silky vocals and skillful cadence switches. One of my favorite uses of vocal stacking on this whole project. The riffs and runs are masterful- her tone, lovely. I really dig the changes in volume and some bits of vocal distortions as we continue deeper into the track. SWIRL– OOO PART II IM ASCENDING! CANNOT GET ENOUGH OFF THIS PART! A switch up musically and vocally mannnn THIS IS SO GOOOOOD UGH!

ADORE THIS BEAT LOVE THE VIBE THIS SONG CAPTURES. AGAIN, THE USE OF THE NAILS IS EVERYTHING! I am so happy we’re continuing the energy and production style further. There’s this trippy distortion-sound that comes in and out that is super cool. Loving the small electronic bits and additions that play off the distortion. As the song progresses that cymbal ts ts ts ts just adds so much to the build- yess. SWIRL is rightttt! TAKE ME THERE- still distorted but new elements and THAT NEW BEATT. the groove and flow created! So much happened in the music and I was eating it all up! 10s 10s 10s

ooop don’t hate me- this is probably my least favorite on the entire album and this track is one that has yet to grow on me. There are parts that I like but there’s a lot I don’t. BUT LETS FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE SHALL WE Again, a beautiful transition!! A SONG WITH DOLLY AND BEYONCÉ- that is something I never thought would be possible until this album. I like the cheeky lyrics and their moments together in the intro and outro.

Love to hear Dolly’s voice to open this up! I really enjoy the unison beginning and picking out Dolly’s twang in the stacks. I always like some echoes or ad-libs to fill some space. She gave that falsetto on the bridge, and I was floatinggg. Unison in the outro, yes!

TYRANT: MUSIC

The music is where my main gripes with this song lie. I think the strings + trap beat make sense for this project- and follows the running theme of exploration of “country” sounds with other elements. However, FOR ME, it’s not my favorite combo- and that distracts me for the other elements of this song I do like :/ liked the bridge tho!

SWEET ⭐️ HONEY ⭐️ BUCKIN’ FT SHABOOZEY: INTRO 

This one is easily the one that grew on me the most! Every time I listen, I am just amazed by another element I never noticed before—and this one gets me moving the most of any song on this album.  Being that this song is three parts we get three unique experiences that transition flawlessly into one another. This track is like a microcosm of this album- incredible beats and production, brilliant transitions, and vocal intricacy!

THIS SONG HAS IT ALL FOR ME VOCALLY. PHARELL WILLIAMS- THE COMPOSITION!! SIR! Okay, okay let’s start with SWEET- I love B’s vocal in this and Shaboozey’s verse fits super nicely in here. A lot of the color in this part comes from the music but she’s still serving attitude. The laugh transition into HONEY is sooo nice as Beyoncé gives us a floaty and dreamy verse. PHARELL ON THE CHORUS OF HONEY—so so pleasing to the ear! He continues in with his ad-libs backing B in BUCKIN’ brining back the attitude from SWEET and turning it up. I love this song.

THE MUSIC OF THIS IS ON ANOTHER LEVEL. AGAIN, Pharrell is credited on this track, so it makes sense that the production of this song is IT. The sounds and the choicess- you can pick up a different element each listen its incredible. THE BEAT is sooooo nice in SWEET it hits hard. THE TRANSITIONS into HONEY and BUCKIN’ are smooth—HONEY floated and then into BUCKIN’ we get slapped back into ANOTHER BEAT and this one punches. The horse clomping backing in the mix whaaat. DYNAMIC SONG! HAS ME MOVING EVERYTIME.

NOW THAT WE HAVE SINNED, WE BACK AT THE CHURCH! This feels so full circle! These last 8 tracks have been non-stop- energy flow dance transition- now we must repent and remember where we started! There’s like this muffled horn-like sound backing with and some piano that a really like as B is GIVING US VOCALS! THE STACKS again creating that church feeling we opened with. As we move into the outro were giving an ending playing off the beginning SWELLING VOCALS, WE SWTICH TO THAT ORGAN! AMEN BEYONCÉ.
