Kehlani likely won’t forget their first trip to Pittsburgh anytime soon.

The 27-year-old R&B singer performed in the Steel City on August 16, 2022 at UPMC Events Center. Joined by Rico Nasty and Destin Conrad, the concert was part of Kehlani’s Blue Water Road Trip, a tour supporting their third studio album.

The singer performed a setlist of over 20 songs from blue water road and previous albums, including an electric rendition of their 2020 hit “Can I.” Though staging and set design was not elaborate, the show was especially enhanced by the choreography and stage presence of Kehlani and their backup dancers. Kehlani’s sweet, sultry vocals were on full display.

Things were running smoothly until, out of nowhere, a female fan bypassed security and walked onstage toward Kehlani. The girl attempted to reach for the singer before being quickly ushered away. Kehlani was visibly startled and paused before continuing to perform.

However, it was only a few songs later that the show stopped again, this time due to fighting breaking out amongst audience members in the floor section. Several fans were escorted out of the arena, and Kehlani was quick to address the commotion.

“All of y’all know my personality; I do not condone any type of violence at my show. This is a safe space for everybody here,” she said.

The energy shifted thanks to two audience members getting engaged during the show. Kehlani, who witnessed the proposal while performing, invited the fiancées on stage and serenaded them with “melt.” As the audience cheered, the newly engaged couple slow-danced together onstage, a sweet moment in the midst of a chaotic concert. While crowd antics threatened to steal the show, Kehlani proved they are a true professional, swiftly handling every curveball thrown their way and still producing an amazing performance for their fans.

Kehlani took time to express their gratitude for their fans during the concert, marveling at “how rare and crazy it is to exist this long in this industry, and it’s all because of you,” they told the crowd. “You guys make this whole sh*t possible. You’ve changed my life. You’ve given my daughter a home. You’ve given my daughter a future. You’ve given my daughter anything in this world that she could even want. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I owe it to you. So, just remember that – everything that I ever do is for you, my daughter, and God, and that’s it, so thank you.”
