(\u201cWe Are Young\u201d was a Billboard No. 1), producer to hitmakers (Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Lana Del Rey, to name a few), and an artist in his own right, Antonoff can do it all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So why does everyone seem to hate him?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The backlash started earlier this year, with the release of \u201cSolar Power,\u201d Lorde\u2019s first single since 2017\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Melodrama<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. While many were excited for new music and happy with her evolving sound, others were displeased.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<div class=\"twitter-ratio whatever-embed-responsive\"><span class=\"0EbZumi9ByP83slFLvCWj4RXYefH5TnzOqcSDJdIKt1UxQgorMA6wpVkGa\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"2560\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Possibly premature after only two underwhelming singles, but I really wish Lorde hadn\u2019t made another album with Jack Antonoff. Melodrama was great, but you can\u2019t spend a career remaking it. Others compared the track to other songs he had done with Del Rey and Swift, wondering if it was possible for Antonoff to plagiarize himself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The comments continued with the release of Clairo\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sling<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Antonoff excels when he can use his 80s synth and drum machine (and boy, does he use them), but he\u2019s also done country and folk records.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Antonoff changed the sound of today\u2019s pop music with Swift\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1989<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and helped her score two AOTY Grammys for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">1989<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and last year\u2019s surprise drop <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">folklore<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. He worked with Del Rey on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Norman Fucking Rockwell!<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, her most critically acclaimed work since 2014\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ultraviolence<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The Chicks chose him to produce their comeback album <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Gaslighter<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Not to mention, all the one-off songs he\u2019s worked on for artists like Carly Rae Jepsen, Fifth Harmony, St. Vincent, and Sara Bareilles.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some have made observations about today\u2019s pop girls passing Antonoff around (\u201clike a blunt,\u201d one meme jokes), and it\u2019s true: Antonoff overwhelmingly works with female artists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Many female artists have come forward in the last few years to talk about their struggles in the industry, especially when it comes to finding someone to work with. Tales of creepy producers abound, from discounting the artist\u2019s opinion and talent, to sexual harassment and assault. Who are we to begrudge any artist from working with someone they feel truly comfortable with?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s interesting to note how many tweets and think pieces have been published about Antonoff\u2019s failings as a producer, while Dr. Luke is still producing hits for artists like Doja Cat and The Kid Laroi and no one seems to care.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s also interesting to look at other producers who worked with the same artists again and again. Quincy Jones produced four albums for Michael Jackson. Max Martin had a hand in almost every pop hit from the 90s to the 2010s, from Britney to the Backstreet Boys. Nobody\u2019s telling Pharell or RedOne or Mark Ronson to stop working. What makes Antonoff inspire this kind of reaction from people?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">My guess is oversaturation: he\u2019s everywhere, all the time, and people can get sick of constants &#8211; no matter how good they might be. I\u2019m not, though: bring on the reign of Jack Antonoff!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Agree? Disagree?
