From The Supremes<\/a> to the Spice Girls<\/a>, from Destiny\u2019s Child<\/a> to Little Mix<\/a>, I love them all. Some have declared girl groups dead and it\u2019s understandable: the 90s and early 2000s were a golden era for girl bands that we haven\u2019t seen since. Although I am impatiently waiting for the day that another pop girl band dominates the charts (and maybe releases a feature film – I love <\/span>Spice World<\/span><\/i>), there are still many an underground girlband.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My most recent find? Boys World. Don\u2019t worry – according to their Spotify page, \u201cBoys\u201d stands for \u201cBest Of Yourself.\u201d The group (Elana Caceres<\/span>, <\/span>Olivia Ruby<\/span>, <\/span>Queenie Mae<\/span>, <\/span>Lillian Kay<\/span> and <\/span>Makhyli) just released \u201cWingman,\u201d a funky, throwback track about – what else – girl power.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNot a brand new thing that a queendom doesn\u2019t need a king,\u201d they sing, before launching into the catchy chorus: \u201cI don\u2019t need a wingman \/\/ \u2018cause I\u2019m too fly on my own \/\/ I don\u2019t need a thing, man \/\/ No, I \/\/ ain\u2019t thinking \u2018bout a ring, man \/\/ Don\u2019t wanna be weighed down by that stone.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a strong single, especially considering it\u2019s only the group\u2019s second single ever.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement about the song, the group said, <\/span>\u201cThe lyrics of \u2018Wingman\u2019 are truly uplifting and we felt it was important to get the message across to our fans that you are amazing as you are and on your own… \u2019Wingman\u2019 was the first song we ever recorded, so it has a really special place in each of our hearts. We hope that we can inspire anyone who listens to our music to know their worth and to find their own inner royalty, because sometimes all you really need is yourself.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Like all good girl groups, Boys World was created by a company. KYN Entertainment, to be exact, a company founded by Sonny Takhar, who was previously president of Syco Music. You know, the company that signed Fifth Harmony<\/a>, Little Mix and One Direction<\/a>. I think it\u2019s safe to say Takhar knows what he\u2019s doing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Each member was discovered online, posting covers on various social media platforms. After responding to an Instagram DM, the girls were brought together and announced their formation with a TikTok. The group now lives together in LA, supervised by Makhyli\u2019s mom.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The band is set to drop an EP sometime this year.<\/span><\/p>\n
