What else could explain the Jonas Brothers<\/a> reunion (\u201cSucker\u201d was so promising) that\u2019s quickly turned into bland Amazon documentaries and forgettable songs that tell us to chase happiness or whatever?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Alright, so I probably sound like I have a personal vendetta against the JoBros. I don\u2019t; I just think that there are other ex-Disney acts that deserve the spotlight way more.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Aly & AJ<\/a>\u2019s first album came out in 2005 and they quickly became mainstays on Disney Channel, from Aly\u2019s role in <\/span>Phil of the Future,<\/span><\/i> to <\/span>Cow Belles<\/span><\/i>, which starred both sisters. As all Disney kids do, they ended up leaving the channel and taking a break from music. They briefly rebranded as 78violet, but by 2017, they were back to Aly & AJ.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

They released \u201cTake Me<\/a>,\u201d an 80s throwback, complete with drum machine and synths, accompanied by a music video portraying the sisters as seductive vampires. I\u2019ve been hooked ever since.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Aly & AJ continue to put out incredible music, from 2019\u2019s <\/span>Sanctuary<\/span><\/i><\/a> EP to 2020\u2019s \u201cJoan of Arc on the Dance Floor<\/a>.\u201d Their songs are incredibly produced, casting off the acoustic guitar strumming from their Disney days in favor of synths and infectious beats. What remains the same is the sisters\u2019 voices, still perfectly in harmony after all these years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Aly & AJ have also struck a good balance between doing a full set of early-2000s hits and completely new material. At shows, they perform smash hits \u201cPotential Breakup Song<\/a>\u201d (sometimes even twice) and \u201cLike Woah<\/a>,\u201d but leave it at that. They\u2019re not here to help you relive your youth – or to relive theirs (Jonas Brothers, I\u2019m looking at you) – they\u2019re here to show you they\u2019re still making absolutely kickass music.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When we think of ex-Disney kids, we think Miley<\/a>, we think Demi<\/a>, we think Jonas Brothers. I think it\u2019s high time we include Aly & AJ in that conversation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
