I have a pretty extensive playlist of holiday hits, but my favorites are the deep-cuts. So many artists put out holiday songs – easy cash grab – that really good music sometimes gets lost in the shuffle. For example, \u201cHome Alone, Too\u201d by The Staves<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cHome Alone, Too\u201d is one of those sad holiday songs that reflects on who you were with and what you were doing at Christmas time last year. It\u2019s a delicate ballad, full of vocal harmonies and tinkling piano melodies that give it a classic feel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\u2019s a Christmas song in the tradition of \u201cRiver\u201d by Joni Mitchell<\/a> (yes, I consider \u201cRiver\u201d a Christmas song and I will argue about it with anyone who wants to) or \u201cPlease Come Home for Christmas,\u201d covered most popularly by the Eagles.<\/a> The holidays can be a bittersweet time for many people, so it\u2019s nice to hear songs that reflect that feeling.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I saw you in your photographs \/\/ seems you\u2019re having so much fun \/\/ And it\u2019s okay, you don\u2019t belong to me,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> the group sings, without malice or sadness. The kicker comes on the chorus: \u201cAre you watching <\/span>Home Alone<\/span><\/i>, too?\u201d they ask wistfully, perfectly summing up how strange it can feel to think of someone who’s not in your life anymore doing something you once did together.<\/span><\/p>\n

The song came out in 2018, but I think it\u2019s criminal that it\u2019s not on everyone\u2019s holiday playlists, so I\u2019m taking this opportunity to let you all know you\u2019ve been missing out.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
