Photo by Kate Kotlyar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/joywavemusic.com\/\">Joywave<\/a> is an indie rock band hailing from Rochester, New York, is currently co-headlining on the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/joywavemusic.com\/tour\/\">Welcome to Hellvetica<\/a>\u201d tour with <a href=\"https:\/\/idkhow.com\/\">I Don\u2019t Know How But They Found Me<\/a> (iDKHOW), with opener <a href=\"https:\/\/www.savannahconley.com\/\">Savannah Conley<\/a>. The band is composed of lead singer Daniel Armbruster, guitarist Joseph Morinelli, drummer Paul Brennan, and touring members Kevin Mahoney on bass and Connor Ehman on guitar and keys. On Sept. 10, the band played at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.livenation.com\/venue\/KovZ917AxAB\/the-observatory-north-park-events\">Observatory North Park<\/a> in San Diego, however, this show was special due to unforeseen circumstances. The bassist and main singer of iDKHOW, Dallon Weekes, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/iDKHOW\/status\/1568402357595287552?s=20&amp;t=d0Xt5EJHQhwPPAfyyJVHAA\">fell ill with laryngitis<\/a> and were thus unable to perform. Due to this, there was an extra opener alongside Conley known as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clibbus.com\/\">Clibbus<\/a>. Clibbus\u2019s fun and chaotic energy and Conley\u2019s thoughtful lyrics and soft yet powerful tone were the perfect openers for Joywave.<\/p>\n<figure>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"445\" src=\"https:\/\/traklife.com\/kate-kotlyar\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2022\/10\/IMG_7693-scaled-1-1024x712.jpg\" alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\"><figcaption>The surprise opener, Clibbus, teases the audience with a mannequin head during his set. Photo by Kate Kotlyar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Their setlist included songs from a mixture of albums, with one song from their 2017 album, \u201cContent,\u201d three songs from \u201cPossession\u201d (2020), four songs from \u201cHow Do You Feel Now?\u201d (2015), five songs from \u201cCleanse\u201d (2022) and two covers of songs on which they were featured, \u201cDangerous\u201d and \u201cUgly Ending.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When introducing \u201cDangerous,\u201d lead singer Daniel Armbruster mentioned how before the world went into quarantine, the band refused to play the song live on stage, however, after \u201cself-reflecting in quarantine,\u201d making the decision to not be \u201cbad guys\u201d and after finding out the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joywave\/status\/1438686293194588164?s=20&amp;t=RlKGlkbApJDwINmt8aJscw\">song was played in space on a SpaceX mission in 2021<\/a>, the band reconsidered. \u201cIf the song can be played in space, then it sure as hell can be played in San Diego!\u201d Armbruster said.<\/p>\n<p>The band finished their set by not-so-slyly asking the audience to chant, \u201cOne more song! One more song!\u201d and Armbruster gingerly walked over to the \u201cEncore Lever\u201d and Joywave promptly played \u201cDestruction.\u201d I\u2019m not sure if it was a mixture of the crowd jumping, the clapping or the heavy bass drum, but amidst the red fog cloud drifting through the venue, I could feel the beat in my chest and I felt like I was one with the song.<\/p>\n<p>Joywave is definitely named correctly because this show sent waves of joy through me.
