I was first drawn to Faiyaz&#8217;s music from his 2018 hit&nbsp;&#8220;Trust&#8221;. His hushed, silky smooth vocals float over hard-hitting trap beats with ease and self-assuredness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that\u2019s what\u2019s hitting people about me \u2013 a voice from the black male perspective that isn\u2019t so overly aggressive and hasn\u2019t been in R&amp;B for a long time,\u201d Faiyaz revealed to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.factmag.com\/2018\/04\/04\/brent-faiyaz-fact-rated\/\"><em>FACT Rated<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;of his sultry singing style.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his distinct sound, Brent Faiyaz clings to his individuality as an artist. He&#8217;s remained an independent artist throughout his career, even in light of recent successes. Forging his own path in the industry apart from a major label contract<\/p>\n<p>Born Christopher Brent Wood in Columbia, Maryland, Faiyaz first began making music at the age of 12 and uploading original songs on SoundCloud by age 14.
