The magic of Billie Eilish<\/a>\u2018s artistry is she can successfully combine poignant wisdom beyond her years with the innocence that comes with being a twenty-year-old still figuring out life. Her latest EP is no different.<\/p>\n

Guitar Songs<\/em> was released on July 21 without much promotion or fanfare. Consisting of two guitar-led ballads, the surprise project finds Billie Eilish in a vulnerable space as she reflects on heartbreaks, accidents, and current events in the world. Both \u201cTV\u201d and \u201cThe 30th\u201d were written by Billie and her brother Finneas.<\/p>\n

Guitar Songs<\/em> is reminiscent stylistically of Eilish\u2019s acoustic ballads such as \u201cI Love You<\/a>,\u201d \u201cYour Power<\/a>,\u201d and \u201cMale Fantasy<\/a>.\u201d She sings from a place of longing, depression, and numb resolve.<\/p>\n

\u201cTV\u201d was first performed at Billie\u2019s Manchester show during the European leg of Happier Than Ever: The World Tour<\/em>. The song is notable for its lyrical references to Survivor<\/em>, the Johnny Depp\/Amber Heard trial, and the overturning of Roe v. Wade.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe I, maybe I, maybe I\u2019m the problem,\u201d she repeats during the song\u2019s outro, her voice fading into a recording of her fans singing along to \u201cTV\u201d during the concert.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 30th\u201d was written in December 2021, the first song Billie wrote following her smash hit, \u201cHappier Than Ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s why it\u2019s called \u2018The 30th\u2019 because something happened on November 30th, and it had just been the most indescribable thing to have to witness and experience,\u201d Eilish revealed in an interview with Apple Music<\/a>. \u201cI had been writing down all these thoughts that I was having. I was with Finneas, and I was like, \u2018I\u2019m sorry, I don\u2019t know what you were planning on doing, but we need to write this song about this right now.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Billie performed an intimate, acoustic concert<\/a> at Amoeba Music in Hollywood on July 29 to celebrate one year since the release of Happier Than Ever<\/em>. In August and September, she will conclude her world tour with dates in Asia, New Zealand, and Australia.<\/p>\n
