\u201cMy album\u2019s finally ready to go, more than I\u2019ve ever felt before. So this summer, it\u2019ll be like a \u2018SZA summer,\u2019\u201d the R&B singer told a reporter at the 2022 Met Gala<\/a> in May.<\/p>\n

\u201cSZA summer\u201d sounds about right.<\/p>\n

After five years of promoting her debut album Ctrl<\/em><\/a>, releasing hit singles such as \u201cGood Days<\/a>\u201d and features on other artists\u2019 songs, a new album from SZA is huge news. But what she didn\u2019t reveal is that she\u2019s not quite ready to leave the world of her iconic debut just yet. On June 9, SZA kicked off Summer 2022 \u2013 aka \u201cSZA summer\u201d \u2013 with a surprise re-release of Ctrl<\/em> featuring seven bonus tracks. The deluxe album dropped exactly five years after its original release.<\/p>\n

SZA\u2019s popularity has skyrocketed since Ctrl <\/em>first came out. From winning her first Grammy Award for her feature on Doja Cat\u2019s \u201cKiss Me More<\/a>\u201d to releasing the number one SoundCloud track \u201cI Hate U<\/a>\u201d after fans made it viral on Tik Tok, the 32-year-old New Jersey native continues to dominate the music industry. She\u2019s known for many of her famous collaborations with artists like Kendrick Lamar (\u201cAll The Stars<\/a>\u201c), DJ Khaled (\u201cJust Us<\/a>\u201c), Kali Uchis (\u201cFue Mejor<\/a>\u201c), and Summer Walker (\u201cNo Love<\/a>\u201c).<\/p>\n

Previously unreleased songs featured on Ctrl (Deluxe) <\/em>include the popular SoundCloud track \u201c2AM,\u201d which samples PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake\u2019s \u201cCome and See Me<\/a>,\u201d and an alternate version of \u201cLove Galore,\u201d which omits Travis Scott\u2019s rap and replaces it with an extra verse by SZA. The singer confirmed<\/a> via Twitter that all the bonus tracks were recorded during the years of 2014-2017 and are not new material.<\/p>\n

Undoubtedly, SZA has made huge waves in the music industry in her short career and represents a new generation of female R&B\/hip hop artists. But one of her most impressive feats is the chart performance of Ctrl.<\/em> Since its June 2017 release, the debut has remained on the Billboard 200 for 260 weeks<\/a> \u2013 a record for an album by a Black female artist. A testament to SZA\u2019s lasting relevance and influence, Ctrl<\/em> is still yet to leave the chart after five years.<\/p>\n
